The idea behind this website has come from various sources.
Firstly, when I read Dr Alastair Noble’s book “Born in a Golden Age” I thought it would translate well into a website where each section of his life would be easily accessed, since it was so interesting. While I am not as well known, as eloquent, or as interesting as Alastair, I thought it might be a good idea to experiment with my own website.
Secondly, I wanted a website I could play around with using different tools without it being a crucial website for someone else. It doesn’t matter if I break something, and I can try different modules on the back end before implementing them on other websites.
Thirdly, being involved in the Memories Scotland project brought to my attention how important memories are, especially as we get older and they begin to fade. I wanted to keep a record of important stages in my life in a way that was easily accessible for myself and family. Since I am not a writer, the best way for me was to put it in a website.
My mother wrote a book about her life and gave copies to her grandchildren. This is my version of a book.
I know it will benefit me as I get older, and I hope it helps my family, who mean the world to me.
I was born in Haifa, Israel because my father was in the Merchant Navy and was based in Haifa for a year. He was Scottish and my mother was Danish. My parents met on a ship bound for the Faroe Islands in 1950. It was love at first sight and that same year they were...
Childhood As children we didn’t see much of the extended family other than our grandmother who lived in Broxburn – ‘Granny’. My grandfather died in 1956 so I don’t remember him at all. I have many memories of Ann and I going on a long bus journey from Glasgow to...
Gordon and I were married on 16th October 1976 in Harper Memorial Baptist Church by Rev Peter Donald. We met at Glasow University in the Hons Statistics class. We barely talked to each other until the final year dinner after our final exams. (We are both on the left...
I love my family. That seems a very obvious statement, but I have been surprised by how much my love for them has increased as I have aged and they have increased in number! After 48 years of marriage we have 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law and 6 grandchildren. I first met...
Primary Schools I went to school first at Bellahouston Primary School, then to Ibrox Primary School. The classes were very crowded and I ended up being moved up six months twice (there were two intakes – one in August and one in January). This meant that I was a full...
